Nobody has ever paid you to think about any of this.

The history of salt, and why old maps put sea monsters where they did. What an octopus does with the neurons in its arms, and the hour you lost at 1am to how the Romans made concrete that’s still standing.

You went down every one of them anyway. You’ve been doing it since before anyone called it a rabbit hole.

That’s the polymath part. Nobody handed you a field, so you took all of them.

The unpaid part is the good news. Nobody pays us, so nobody gets to tell us which lane to stay in or which answer to reach. A paid thinker gets a department. We get the whole pile, everything we’ve read sitting right next to everything that’s happened to us, and that pile is where the ideas nobody else could have come from.

We’re free to think anything. Most days we spend it on what somebody else already thought.

Secondhand thinking. It feels exactly like the real thing, which is the whole problem. The summary feels like reading the book, and the feed feels like keeping up. The chatbot’s answer feels like working it out, and the perfect note system feels like getting ready to.

You can read four hundred pages of other people’s conclusions and come out the other side without one thought you’d sign.

We don’t do that here. We think it ourselves, and it’s slower than it sounds.

Get all of it out of your head and into your notes, the reading and the stuff that actually happened to you. Crash two of them together and see what’s still standing. Write it down, because you don’t know what you think until you’ve said it in a sentence somebody could argue with. Then put your name on it.

Use the machines if you want, and make them argue with you. Just never let one hand you your opinion, because then it’s theirs.

Some of us were called gifted and heard about our potential for twenty years. Some of us just never stopped asking why. Same club.

Nobody’s grading this, and nobody’s going to pay you for it. The only question left is whether the thought is yours.
